Rockbridge Area Habitat for Humanity will offer a series of financial education classes July 20 – Sept. 14. The nine-class series will meet every Friday evening from 5:30 – 7 p.m. at the Habitat office conference room at 30 E. Preston Street in Lexington.
The classes will feature Dave Ramsey’s “Financial Peace University” video series and will cover topics including strategies to get out of debt, budgeting, saving, understanding credit and predatory lending, and the power of marketing on buying decisions. Students will also learn about insurance, home mortgages, planning for retirement and how to communicate with one’s spouse about money issues. Students will receive a learning kit that includes audio CDs of the videos used in class, Dave Ramsey’s “A Complete Guide to Money,” workbooks and other useful information.
A fee of $50 will be charged to cover the cost of materials. However, scholarships are available through a donation from the Rockbridge Highlands Realtors for up to four local residents, or two couples to attend the classes. These scholarships are offered on a first come, first served basis. Students receiving a scholarship must pay $50 in advance to reserve a place in the classes. The fee will be refunded once all classes are attended.
