Collegiate Challenge

Are you interested in helping build a home for a Habitat family and gaining hands-on construction experience?  Rockbridge Area Habitat for Humanity in Lexington, VA has been hosting Collegiate Challenge teams for more than 8 years.   Located near the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, the historic college town of Lexington is a place you’ll not soon forget.

Your team will arrive Sunday evening and will have hands-on experience  building a Habitat home Monday thru Friday.  No previous building experience is necessary! Two construction supervisors will teach you the skills you need to know for each day's task.

At some point during your stay, you’ll have the opportunity to visit one of the many nearby hiking trails or visit scenic areas like Goshen Pass.  You may also want to tour historical points of interest  (Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson once lived and worked here) and visit the charming shops in downtown Lexington.  For more information on the Lexington/Rockbridge County area check out this website: https://lexingtonvirginia.com/

Typical week:

Sunday:  arrive in Lexington

Monday: work at the build site 9am-12pm; break for lunch; work 1pm-5pm

Tuesday: work 8:30am-12:15pm; break for lunch; work 1:15pm-5pm

Wednesday: work 9am-12:30pm; afternoon free for touring the area

Thursday: work 8:30am-12:15pm; lunch; work 1:15-5pm

Friday: work 9am-12:30pm; afternoon for traveling back home

Groups will be responsible for providing their own meals; however, 1-2 evening meals will be provided by Habitat or a host family.  As for accommodations, you and your team members will stay in private homes, so make sure you pack sleeping bags and pillows.

For more information or if you have questions, please contact Construction Supervisor/Volunteer Coordinator Leo Decanini, at leo@rockbridgehabitat.org.

We'd love to see you this spring!  To register your team, visit the Collegiate Challenge website.
