Volunteer Opportunities

Let us not merely show that we love each other.

Let us show the truth by our actions.

                                                      -- 1 John 3:18

This experience has surpassed my expectations.  I never thought I would actually build the house.  I thought maybe I would just be an assistant to the actual  building."

                                                 -- Cassandra, 2014

I would definitely recommend volunteering with Rockbridge Area Habitat.  The staff are incredibly friendly, helpful and patient, and the work is meaningful.

                                              -- Michael D.

You walk away from this volunteer experience never wanting to leave.

RAHfH Policy on Proselytizing

Volunteers are partners in our work to eliminate poverty housing in our community. You provide labor, which helps us keep costs down — and hopes up.

Rockbridge Area Habitat for Humanity welcomes volunteers, supporters and homebuyers from all backgrounds. Anyone who believes that everyone deserves a decent, affordable place to live is welcome to partner with us regardless of race, religion, age, gender or political views.

As a matter of policy, Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations do not proselytize. This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must either adhere to or convert to a particular faith, or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.

New Home Builds

Both skilled and unskilled volunteers are welcome. You will work side by side with homeowners

as they build their home.  No construction experience is necessary -- just a willingness to learn.

Our construction staff will teach you on site!

Home Repair Projects

Habitat volunteers provide critical repairs to existing homes of qualified low-income homeowners who could not otherwise afford them. These repairs address urgent needs: health, safety, and energy-efficiency issues receive first priority.  These projects are usually short-term --  lasting only a few weeks  -- and are carried out throughout the year as needed.

ReStore Volunteers

Habitat ReStores sell donated gently used merchandise to raise money to buy building materials.

Volunteers help customers, price goods, operate the cash register, and help each store looking its best. Put your customer service, merchandising, decorating skills or construction knoweldge to use!

No retail experience is necessary -- volunteers are trained and supervised by our staff.
