Thursday, July 21st the Habitat High School house; built off-site, was loaded on a flat bed and driven to Greenhouse Village where a crane lifted it onto it's foundation. This program began at the Rockbridge County High School years ago and has been a successful collaboration. The high school students get hands-on experience with building, plumbing, electrical work and so much more. It is a large project and takes a huge team.
The foundation was built this summer by volunteers as well as the homeowner! And this Thursday the house was placed on it's blocks. Crystal, the Habitat homeowner has already completed her 200 hours of sweat equity but is thrilled to have so much progress made on her house.
We rely on volunteers to complete this and other projects. We had a volunteer crew of 20 throughout the day working on this house and several regular volunteers working on various projects. Lunch for this crew was provided by a another volunteer! We are grateful for all the community support; donations to Rockbridge Area Habitat, to our ReStores and all the amazing volunteers. THANK YOU!
